Le Goûter Bernardaud, IFC Mall, Hong Kong

Restaurant: Le Goûter Bernardaud
Location: Hong Kong, SAR

On my recent trip to Hong Kong, I had the good opportunity to visit the International Financial Centre (IFC) and the many stores/restaurants located in the three-story mall. Le Goûter Bernardaud, a modern Parisian tea salon known for its authentic Parisian macarons, artisan chocolates, and teas/coffee was a wonderful respite from all the shopping (and from the summer heat). As you see from below, I enjoyed a caffe latte with four macarons.

Highly recommended place if one is ever in Hong Kong (again).

Chao Ping Ji - Taipei, Taiwan

Chao Ping Ji, located in the San Want Hotel in Taipei is known for its Chao-Chow specialties. Chao-chow, the coastal village east of Guangdong Province, has a cooking style similar to Cantonese cuisine although it is usually lighter in flavoring and embraces the importance of the freshness of the ingredients themselves. Well-known for its braised and steamed seafood and vegetarian dishes, Chao-chow cuisine is exemplified at Chao Ping Ji through their rendition of marinated goose slices, shawl crab served cold with special dipping sauce, and Shark's Fin steamed in chicken broth.

Upon my visit, I decided to forgo the marinated goose slices and instead chose a wonderfully simple set course menu. Here is the proof.

Mitsui Culinary Art Museum - Taipei, Taiwan

"Mitsui Culinary Art Museum is hidden as a cosmopolitan paradise amidst the bustling city with a simplistic grand atmosphere that greets one warmly at the door...the ambiance is luxuriant and beautiful. Not only are the hustle and bustle of the city blocked outside the door, all the tension and uneasiness seem to have suddenly dissolved away..."
- Mitsui Cuisine

Taipei, Taiwan is one of my favorite cities in the world, not only for its untapped beauties, but for the various culinary treats that can be found, if one looks in the right places. Traveling in Asia, I have found that chefs are very proud of their creations and there is no better way to see this than in set courses in various restaurants.

A la carte at Mitsui Culinary Art Museum has never been an option for me...
